7 Aspects of Failed Podcasts to Avoid at All Costs

We talk a lot about what you should do to gain traction and build a podcast audience. But what about the things you need to avoid? There are plenty of reasons that that podcasts fail, but these seven are biggies. Try to avoid them at all costs.☠️

  • Lack of Unique or Compelling Content. A podcast needs to offer something of value to its target audience. There are thousands of podcasts, so finding a way to stand out is crucial.
  • Inconsistence Calendar: An inconsistent release schedule is a great way to make sure listeners will forget about your podcast.
  • Burnout: Podcasting requires dedication and is extremely time consuming. If you can’t put in the time and cut corners, your audience will know.
  • Poor Audio Quality: First impressions are everything, and if your early podcast attempts have poor audio quality and sound unprofessional, you’ll turn off your audience.
  • Weak Branding and Marketing: Effective branding and marketing are essential for attracting and retaining listeners. Without proper promotion and visibility, a podcast may struggle to gain traction.

Analysis: I love it when the text is able to do all of the work. The hierarchy is laid out clearly and simply. And kudos for fading a portion of "Silence" into nothingness as a way to emphasize the word. Vibrant imagery has its place, but if you're relying solely on text to do the work, this is a great example.
