8 Ways to Build Your Audience When Your Podcast Seems to Be Stuck in Neutral

So, you’ve started a podcast. You’ve cranked out several episodes that you’re proud of. But…you’re not gaining much traction with an audience. Hey, it happens. But don’t give up hope, there are fixes you can try to improve your listener base.🏋🏾‍♂️

  • Take a long, hard look at your target audience. Make sure you have a clear understanding of who your target audience really is and what they're interested in. Tailor your content to meet their needs and preferences. You might be misreading what they want.
  • Improve your content. It could be that your podcast content needs a boost. Determine ways that you can be more engaging, informative, and entertaining. Ask for feedback from listeners and make improvements based on their suggestions.
  • Be sure your release schedule is consistent. Your audience needs to know when to expect new episodes. This consistency builds anticipation and keeps listeners coming back.
  • Optimize the metadata of your podcast. Make sure your podcast title, description, and episode titles contain relevant keywords. This will improve your podcast's visibility in search results on podcast platforms.
  • Self promote. You can’t expect to build an audience without advertising. Employ social media, your website, email newsletters, and other channels to promote your podcast and reach a wider audience.
  • Collaborate with others who have a following. Partner with other podcasters, influencers, or organizations in your niche to cross-promote content. This can help expose your podcast to new audiences.
  • Don’t be afraid to pivot your content direction. If your current topic doesn’t seem to resonate, try something new. You may see a shift in listeners when you alter your course.
  • Stick to it. Patience is key and building an audience takes time. Stay committed to consistently creating high-quality content and promoting your podcast, even if results don't come immediately.

Analysis: Back to the GraphicAudio for design inspiration. I love these detailed illustrations. They're not always perfect, but they certainly catch the eye. The dark color palette is perfect for a book titled, Dark Night of the Mountain Man, and all of the info you need is right there. The side profile of Smoke Jensen is the cherry on top.
