In today’s email:
What's the first thing we do when we "meet" someone new online?
We do a "vibe check."
What does that mean?
It means we check for whether the person is full of @#$%^&* or not.
Are they authentic? Are they AI? Are they faking everything? Do they know what they are talking about? Can they help me? Are they a threat?
It's getting so hard that each of us has his own way of checking this.
Maybe it's how they answer hard questions. Maybe it's what they avoid talking about. Maybe it's their personal lives they live off camera.
Maybe it's the social follower engagement. Maybe it's whether they have a plaque or a lambo in the background.
This one proof is establishing the most critical checkpoint in building an audience online.
Do I like this person? Do I want to get to know this person? Can I trust this person?
If you fail the vibe check, good luck. You are fighting an uphill battle from day one.
And all because your co-workers' friend Eddie who saw his 15-minutes of fame and is now an expert advised you to do something not you.
If you cannot be you from the first impression, how long do you think you can show up online like that?
Not long.
If you are planning to join the online community in any meaningful way, you want to play the long game.
And that means, genuinely being yourself and becoming who you want to genuinely be.
