In today’s email:
I was a guest on a podcast recently with an author who was lamenting the fact that his digital AI clone was able to write in his voice.
And do it better than he could write on a first attempt.
There are many implications for this good and bad.
We talked about how fan-fiction writers could simply write as many sequels as they want to their favorite books.
They would be in the author's voice and follow all the rules of the created world and characters.
This means the author also could use it to write his own sequels.
And emails. And marketing copy. And written interviews.
I recently heard a story about a fan who bought an original, unreleased Kanye West song for $200,000. He swears he got ripped off, and it's just an AI created song.
After listening to it, I think he's right.
But what if Ye used an AI to create it?
Is there some kind of certificate of authenticity?
Does this change everything we know about copyright and its use?
Do you as a listener or fan care about the source if you enjoy the art?
Difficult questions.
And ones we will have to wrestle with from here forward.
Do you come out net positive on digital clones or net negative?
Respond to this email and let me know.
I like this Wavve design because it has good energy. Wakeboard slash snowboard vibes with ocean-colored lines that match the cover art. A nice spacey background. Room for captions and a waveform animation for movement. Logo with plenty of space for respect. Good work!
