Connected to everyone and no one
Do you work remote? Are you alone most of the day?
Do you feel connected to others in a meaningful way?
According to the US Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, loneliness is now a public health concern.
The mortality impact of being disconnected from people is similar to smoking up to 15 cigarettes per day.
The pre-COVID research shows that one-in-two adults in America reported experiencing loneliness, and it hasn't improved.
Common comments were, "I have to shoulder all of life's burdens by myself,” or “If I disappear tomorrow, no one will even notice."
These are of course lies.
But do you find yourself thinking these things?
Content creation and social media can involve many hours of isolation.
And we all must be aware of it enough to ensure we are building in a habit of truly connecting with people in real life.
Take a moment after you read this to think of one person you could physically see today or tomorrow. Tell them you appreciate them. Tell them something specific that impresses you about them.
You never know who needs your words of encouragement right now.
Thank you for being here. You are truly special because you put your energy into content that changes lives.
Even if one person is encouraged by your podcast, book, song, or words, it matters.
