What Podcasters Can Learn From True Crime Successes

True Crime is obviously one of the most popular podcasting genres. Successful podcasts in that space can offer some good lessons that apply throughout podcasting.

A few weeks ago, Sounds Profitable hosted a panel discussion at South by Southwest featuring true crime podcasters. They featured that interaction in a recently posted article that highlighted these five interesting takeaways/tips.

  1. Consistency is king. Commit to a regular cadence and stick to it. Your audience will thank you.
  2. Embrace the grind. Everyone has rough days in the studio. The magic is in pushing through.
  3. Treat your listeners like partners. Create opportunities for meaningful, two-way engagement. They’re your best ambassadors and your guiding lights.
  4. Do right by your subjects. Empathy isn’t just good ethics; it’s good business. Always err on the side of compassion and care.
  5. Stay nimble. The podcast landscape is always shifting. Keep an ear to the ground and be ready to pivot.

These are all great to keep in mind, and I'm especially drawn to treat your listeners like partners. That should be first and foremost when putting together a podcast. Good stuff from Sounds Profitable.👏🏽👏🏻

Analysis: Getting people to listen starts with being transparent about what your podcast topic is. The topic here is clearly and succinctly stated in the top right graphic. Blue is a popular color in these designs, and here, the varying shades of it work well together. We've mentioned before the importance of stating where your podcast can be found, and that's done well here too. Good work!
